        In a major crackdown, Chennai police have busted an illegal industrial unit which was manufacturing spurious liquor bottles in Puducherry last night.

        Police have arrested a man identified as Ramkumar (44) of Puducherry in this connection and seized Rs three lakh worth goods from the unit.

        Acting on tip-off about transport of spurious liquor bottles from Puducherry to Chennai, a special team was formed to keep close watch on this. In one such vigil near Guindy Industrial Estate last night, the police stopped a vehicle which transported liquor bottles and duplicate labels from Puducherry.

        Following this, Ramkumar was arrested. And subsequent search at his residence in Puducherry led to the seizure of three lakh worth of goods which included 31,000 liquor bottles, 19,500 labels and a machine used in manufacturing. However investigations are on to trap the sources which supply materials for the manufacturing unit.
